We’re always on the look out for fresh and interesting talent. This is the place you’ll find out all about it!
We’re on the look out for:
Advertising Manager(s)
You will be creating advertising and marketing campaigns, working to get advertisers on board for our transition into print. For each advertisement you bring in, you will be paid a 30% commission. This is a paying position and will entail growth entirely dependent on the work you put in. Fresh BBA/MBA graduates may apply or if you’re looking to come on board into a young and ambitious journal and have been in the industry previously, you’re more than welcome to join us. Obviously, the better we do in terms of gaining subscriptions and advertisements, the more you will earn. We don’t make promises we can’t keep. You will play an extremely pivotal role in our transition into print. Ideally, we are looking to assemble a Marketing & Sales team. Interviews will be conducted for successful candidates. What we’re really looking for, though? Are people who can think outside the box, are spunky, creative, hardworking and initiative driven individuals. Everything else is on the job experience.
Managing Editor
You will be working closely with the editorial teams ensuring content’s focus is as it should be, deadlines are all being met, following up with each editorial team to verify whether everything is being done in a timely manner, editorial processes are being adhered to. You will also work with the Editor-in-Chief to finalize central cover features around which the issues will be constructed. This is largely a managerial position and interested candidates must demonstrate skill, dedication and loyalty coupled with longevity and an ability to see the bigger picture.
Film Critic & Blogger
We’re looking for a film aficionado who’s passionate about the industry, both Hollywood and international and writes with an opinionated but fairly unbiased streak. You need to live and breathe films and be an extremely responsible and loyal individual, willing to take point on The Second Frame, the blog you will manage. What you choose to cover will be left to you–creative control will be yours–we ask only that you be prepared to cover up-and-coming titles (up to 3) per quarter for TMS’s digital edition. In between, you’re free to cover additional films and/or talk about film theory, or whatever chooses your fancy. Needless to say, your writing must be impeccable. This is a literary journal after all.
Copywriters & Fact Checkers
Particularly needed for articles, features and all other material submitted to the magazine most importantly: journalistic features. Each piece will need to be verified for originality and actual facts. This, along with going through material religiously after the editing stages and before it’s sent forward for publication, for typos, grammar issues, structural inconsistencies etc, and bringing the latter to the attention of the relevant editor.
Web Developer / Creative Lead Asst
You will be well versed in WordPress: themes, plugins and coding for the platform. Knowledge of CSS/HTML and PHP will be instrumental. If you have added experience in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, you will work in collaboration with Hassan Sagheer, our Creative Lead who currently manages this side along with digital publication. You will play an instrumental role in the presentation of content. Good programming and aesthetic skills are key. Prior experience is an added boon.
Each of the above (aside from the commission based Advertising Managers) are, unfortunately, unpaid positions but we are going to be taking this to print as soon as humanely possible and get started on paying our staff. It is extremely high on our list to seek monetary compensation for our staff members. But to pay you, we need money so there’s that. That is, hopefully, where our Ad Managers will come in.
If you’re interested in any of the above, email us with your CVs. In the case of senior articles editors & Managing Editor candidates, please include your editing/writing samples.
